Deadmau5 Latest Artist To Start Fashion Line

Created in partnership with Neff Headwear, the line launched yesterday (July 25), according to Billboard
The colorful line will be dubbed the Neffmau5 collection and contains co-branded T-shirts, hats and hoodies. The new signature line is the first installment of a two-year collaboration between mau5 and Neff.

"I love the street and snowboard scene," Deadmau5 revealed in a release. "The people involved are the people I see at my shows, so it made sense to hook up with a cool company like Neff to work on a collaboration. Plus it was easy to put ears on the Neff face for an instantly legit logo, right?"

Founder and CEO of Neff Headwear, Shaun Neff, is just as stoked as Deadmau5 about the collab, saying, “We think Neffmau5 perfectly expressed the combined energy of our two brands and we hope a new army of new consumers will agree."

Deadmau5 joins a lengthy list of artists who have their own clothing lines, including Black Eyed Peas’ will.i.am, Gwen Stefani, Pharell, Jay-Z and Jessica Simpson. Also Tiesto just signed a deal with Guess Recently

The Neffmau5 collection is fresh in stores and will be available at a variety of retail and online outlets.mtv news

Deadmau5 Slams Playboy Model Tricia Evans for Colorado Shooting

Electronic dance music Deadmau5 was not amused when Playboy model Tricia Evans attempted  inarguably unamusing, deeply crass joke on Twitter related to Friday's massacre in Colorado.

"I heard the new Batman movie is really 'to die for'!" she wrote after news broke of the shootings at a Dark Knight Rises screening that claimed 12 lives and left dozens wounded. Added Evans: "Too soon?"
Deadmau5's response: "good to know @HollywoodTricia i seriously had no idea how big of a shit you are. unfollowed."

The musician's tweet appears to have been deleted from his Twitter page, but has been screengrabbed via the Huffpo. On Friday, Deadmau5 also wrote: "my thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families in Colorado during this most troublesome time. :\ such senselessness."

Meanwhile, Evans -- facing a barrage of outraged tweets from critics -- has been on the defense, writing: "Most of the people I've heard from r walking, talking bags of shit & deadmau5 is the moral police. LOL."

Deadmau is no stranger to a social-media feud. Earlier this year, the EDM leader took on a much bigger fish when he scolded Madonna for what he perceived as her casual use of a slang term for the drug ecstasy from the stage at the Ultra Music Festival.
Back in March, the pop queen took the stage stage to introduce Swedish DJ Avicii, yelling to the crowd, "How many people in this crowd have seen Molly?"
Riled up, Zimmerman blasted Madonna in an 800-word rant posted to his Tumblr page and on Facebook, where he called the 53-year-old a "f----ing IDIOT" and questioned, "That's your big message to ultra attendies? hipsterspeak for looking for drugs? F--- off."by erin carlson

Whether it be the 250,000 revelers coming together at Ipanema Beach in Rio De Janeiro, the adoring clubbers who descend upon Privilege in Ibiza on a Monday night every summer, or the 25,000 fans en masse at Victoria Park in London, all are in attendance for the same reason: they have come to see Tiësto, the world’s biggest DJ/Producer!

Tiësto, a.k.a. Tijs Verwest, is a performer who has transcended musical genres to create a global ‘Tiësto’ brand. His achievements include a Grammy nomination, numerous MTV awards, performing at the opening ceremony of the 2004 Athens Olympic Games, and even a wax statue at Madame Tussauds. With over 7 million followers on Facebook and over 130 million hits on YouTube, Tiësto has truly become a universal phenomenon.

Recently voted ‘The Greatest DJ Of All Time’ in a Mixmag poll, Tiësto has worked with artists as diverse as Nelly Furtado, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Goldfrapp, Jónsi from Sigur Rós, Diplo, and Busta Ryhmes. When he is not collaborating with some of the world’s most respected artists he is jet setting his way around the globe playing sold out shows to his adoring fans. His recently completed Kaleidoscope World Tour spanned more than 15 months and 175 dates across 6 continents playing to over 1,000,000 people. The hugely successful tour was recognized as such when Tiësto was nominated for two 2010 Billboard Touring Awards and listed in Billboard’s Top 25 biggest grossing touring acts of 2010.

Tiësto invested heavily in the visual aspect of his DJ sets including a mesmerizing exhibition of lasers, light shows and massive LED screens. “Throughout 2010 I concentrated all my energy on the Kaleidoscope World Tour. Along with the music, I created some of the best production to date, and it really felt like something special.”

Never one to rest on his laurels, Tiësto is more enthusiastic than ever for the new and improved 2011 live experience. The 2011 ‘Club life tour’ and ‘Tiesto Live In Concert’ shows in Vegas will continue to evolve and expand what a live DJ show can be. “For me the possibilities are limitless and I have once again been working with a really talented team on state of the art production elements. I am really pleased with the results and I can’t wait for the fans to experience these incredible new shows!”

The staying power of electronic dance music

Las Vegas nightlife world felt a major happening in our city toward programming electronic dance music and focusing on major headlining DJs in our venues. Any operator with their finger on the pulse saw this approaching, but I’m not sure even we knew how large of a draw this would become and the international attention Las Vegas would earn as “the new Ibiza.”
Major media outlets have started to catch on to what we’re building in our community, and one question always comes up, from the New York Times to Rolling Stone: Is this a fad, or does electronic dance music have staying power?

this is something that has crossed all of our minds at one point or another. It’s no secret that we’ve gone all in with this music, from recruiting top talent to developing marketing campaigns to branding the city the EDM Capital of the World. I have been a fan of dance music for as long as I’ve worked in nightlife, and I can recall a few times where the energy would start to buzz around the genre and we’d think it was about to break through, but nothing can compare to where we are today and what is brewing in the U.S.

Not long ago, DJs took a back seat but today they take center stage in every way possible, from Diplo talking you through his tour on a Blackberry campaign to Avicii spinning in a Budweiser commercial during the Super Bowl. Tiesto gave the first-ever live streaming concert on Twitter at XS this year, and Deadmau5 posed for the debut EDM cover of Rolling Stone this month.

This past year, the Wynn nightlife teams including XS, Tryst, Encore Beach Club and Surrender partnered to develop a roster of 36 resident DJs who were exclusive to the property and aligned with our vision. Our goal was to continue our reputation as the leading nightclubs in the world while now being known as the ultimate destination for dance music fans. Our already successful venues have seen an increase in revenue, and acts like Deadmau5 and Tiesto have set record-breaking attendance numbers.

I am confident that this music will remain a popular force in Las Vegas and especially nightclubs because we offer DJs something not many other cities can: a revolving door of new eyes and ears each night. As a destination, we provide an opportunity to introduce their music to the curious and unfamiliar at the same time that their devoted followings fill up venues. It’s a truly great partnership.
If you’re looking for more or wanting an introduction to the scene, I encourage you to check out the XS podcast to see if the music speaks to you. Then join us for a night at XS or Tryst. We have dates with Avicii, Morgan Page, Steve Aoki, Dada Life, Porter Robinson, Manufactured Superstars, Knife Party and many more in July alone.by jesse waits

Electronic Dance Music Really Could Be the New Rock?

Anyone who follows pop music knows, those two years have seen Skrillex, Deadmau5, and peers like Avicii, Swedish House Mafia, and more rise to celebrity status on a tidal wave of brutally physical, subtlety-free dance music that's come to be called EDM (electronic dance music) by the press and fans alike. The industrial incessantly pounding sounds of EDM have also been popularized on Top 40 radio by superstar producers like David Guetta, RedOne, Dr. Luke, and Calvin Harris, but the music's real home, according to its youthful fanbase, is in warehouse raves, DJ sets at not-particularly-upscale clubs, and increasingly at live festivals, where both attendance and excitement has been upending the previous two decades' conventional wisdom about the preference of American youth for rock, hip-hop, or country.

EDM could be thumbnailed as being to hip-hop what rock was to jazz: not a total overthrow, but a paring down of ideas that had been present from the beginning.
Like anything new or perceived to be new in popular music, the rhetoric around EDM has quickly gotten overheated. The New York Times recently quoted a concert promoter as saying, "If you're 15 to 25 years old now, this is your rock 'n' roll," and breathless profiles in even the nostalgia-peddling Rolling Stone have encouraged that identification. Meanwhile, the chorus of voices declaring that EDM is the worst musical movement in history, the ultimate proof of the decadent know-nothingness of American youth, and the end of culture itself, has only grown—especially online. A lot of that, of course, is the usual grumbling of 30-and-older-somethings that music has changed since they were 15 to 25. But even better-informed arguments that it's all been done before, and that the new crop of EDM superstars don't measure up to the past glories of electronic rave, sound familiar. The cultural arguments over the meaning of EDM, in fact, mirror those of previous generations in pop music, from jazz to rock and roll to hip-hopsuggesting that perhaps we really have entered a new era.

Music journalists are only now beginning to understand  how EDM seemingly sneaked up on them unawares. The narrative of new music has so often been one of building from a despised underground after years of struggle, rip-off, and hustle to mass popularity. But EDM came in by no back door but right through the front gate, with Lady Gaga's "Just Dance" in late 2008. The sound didn't take long to spread: the takeover was complete by the time Ke$ha's unutterably dumb and technologically astute "TiK ToK" began 2010 at the top of the charts. Gaga and Ke$ha, of course, are pop stars, and "TiK ToK" was co-written with Max Martin, who engineered Britney Spears's career 15 years ago: It applies the sound structural principles of popcraft to the aggressive forward momentum of EDM, and features a pure-pop bridge where Skrillex fans might expect a drop. But only year later, Britney's "Hold It Against Me" (also with Martin and Dr. Luke) had a gloriously scuzzy drop in place of a bridge, and ever since, the "dubstep bridge" has become practically synonymous with pop radio; if "TiK ToK" was written today, it would almost certainly have one.by jonathan bogart

Tiësto Electro-Fied Bluesfest Partiers on Opening Night

Tiësto, a household name in the EDM scene, took the RBC Royal Bank Bluefest to a whole new level on the opening night Wednesday.
This year’s festival is marketed as “electro-fied” as a nod to the bigger lineup of EDM artists and Tiësto delivered.

Thousands of people packed  the stage to watch the 43-year-old Dutch music producer and DJ mix electro, progressive, and a dash of house, non-stop to cap the festival’s first night.
“For Tiësto to come to Ottawa for Bluesfest is unreal because every year Bluefest is, I feel, more folk, more country,” said Laura Roberts, one fan in a sea of people by the main stage. “But for Tiësto to perform for us is just something different.”

She said having electronic acts at Bluesfest is “a complete culture shock” for her, adding that it will expose people to different styles of music.

Tiësto played hardcore electro beats, but blended them, at times, with remixes of songs like Gotye’s Somebody That I Used To Know and Rihanna’s We Found Love.
When the thumping bass retreated, everyone howled like wolves and jostled their arms up to the cool, moonlit sky
.
Then, they felt the bass return like a punch to the chest.
Roberts was pulsating mass of people – both young and old. Everyone was grooving to the beat, regardless of age, dancing style, or their sense of personal bubbles.
EDM fan Dan Metcalfe was also grooving to Tiësto’s set Wednesday night. He said EDM is starting to eat up part of the hip-hop market. by joe lofaro
