Biscayne Boulevard Closed Thursday Through Monday for Ultra

Ultra Music Festival is taking it to the streets -- literally. A few blocks of northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard will be closed Thursday night through early Monday morning. Plan your route accordingly, and as a favor to yourself and the drivers who can't avoid it, consider staying out of the area entirely.

Yes, Kraftwerk might play, but Biscayne certainly won't be their ideal autobahn.

The northbound lanes of Biscayne Boulevard between SE First Street and NE Third Street will be closed beginning at 10 p.m. Thursday and will not reopen until 5 a.m. Monday.

For the past few years the ever expanding Ultra Music Festival had taken place in the larger Bicentennial Park, but museum construction has forced the festival to relocate back to the smaller Bayfront Park. The lanes are being closed off to help accommodate the crowds, per the press release from the Florida Department of Transportation:
In order to accommodate a larger footprint for increased capacity, ULTRA is transforming and customizing Bayfront Park in a way never seen before for an enhanced music experience. With ULTRA MUSIC FESTIVAL being a major music event in South Florida, the local economic impact to the city of Miami is unprecedented for a concert and is an important piece to Miami's continued rise to the top of the list as one of the world's fastest growing, and most important metropolis and tourist destinations. Ticket holders coming from all 50 U.S. States and more than 72 countries and territories are expected.
Northbound traffic will instead be rerouted through the southbound lanes, which will cause a squeeze in both directions.

Ultra-goers: Consider public transportation, carpooling, or, if you're close enough, walking or riding a bike. Regular commuters: Consider some of the same options or a different route. Area residents: Maybe it's a good weekend to go visit Grandma in Sarasota.
