Electric Daisy Carnival NY Huge Success

With 100,000 people over three days at the inaugural Electric Daisy Carnival New York, it can officially be called a massive success. A sold out MetLife stadium May 18th – 20th provided New Jersey an experience like none has ever seen before. The festival featured state of the art lighting, stunning special effects and the best talent the industry has to offer, as well as hundreds of theatrical performances. With three stages of music, Insomniac gave what it promised to deliver, an unforgettable experience unlike any other.
At around 3 o’clock in the afternoon, the MetLife stadium filled up with fluorescent clothes, flowers and fake fur leggings as Friday kicked off with beautiful weather. The usual heavy hitters like ARMIN VAN BUUREN, MADEON and FEDDE LE GRAND, all put on terrific performances. Friday was filled with energy and had people shouting along their favorite songs while dancing long into the night.
Saturday, I got bits and pieces of all 31 sets, which were running continuously from noon till 11 o’clock at night. The overwhelming majority of Saturday’s acts however, along with the rest of the festival’s lineup, were house and trance sets and the only thing that really seemed to be missing, was a stage with all the up-and-coming artists. With “Titanium” by DAVID GUETTA featuring SIA, “Coming Home” by DIDDY-Dirty Money featuring SKYLAR GREY, and ADELE’s “Set Fire to the Rain,” all were heard multiple times over the weekend. Saturday did however bring the most refreshing sound, as artists like CARL COX reminded me how easily it is to stand out by doing something different. Even SWEDISH HOUSE MAFIA’s STEVE ANGELLO stepped away from his usual house heavy sets to a stretch of fresh and increasingly rhythm-happy dance music. ERICK MORILLO had a memorable performance by deviating from his usual house routine and had instead put on a dancehall-tinged Caribbean inspired set. Still the main attractions of day were AVICII and CALVIN HARRIS, playing all of their popular tunes that had people screaming at the top of their lungs while sending the entire crowd into a dancing flash mob

Sunday was taken over by the Dutch DJ superstars, QUINTINO, R3HAB, CHUCKIE and AFROJACK, who closed EDC New York with a bang. R3HAB performed a great set that had the crowd in the entire stadium jumping up and down while he played his hottest tracks. AFROJACK was the highlight of Sunday performances, putting on two shows and closing the weekend in front of a huge crowd that went as far back as the stadium gates. As the night ended, AFROJACK thanked the crowd and his fellow performers as the final fireworks lit up the sky, claiming his love for New York and made a promise to return to EDC New York again in 2013.
